What’s your favorite meal at Convo?Steak Night! An eagle needs his strength to cheer on our athletic teams and attend campus events, and convo steak night does just the trick! What’s your favorite thing to do on Tuffy Tuesday? The best part about Tuffy Tuesday is getting out on campus to see everyone, and it’s a great excuse for me to dance in public!Has Tuffy seen the missing pigeon that’s been advertised on posters around campus? Wow! Sorry to hear your troubles, I haven’t seen your friend, but I’ll make sure to keep an extra (birds haha) eye out for him! I should warn you though pigeons are notoriously aloof. What is your favorite campus event? That’s a tough question, I love them all, especially when there’s AU cookies being passed out!How do you deal with stress?Being a mascot for an AMAZING Division II school is fairly stressful. So when I’m feeling really stressed, I fly around a little bit to clear my head, or head to the gym to pump some iron!Hiya Tuffy! What’s your go-to order at your smoothie bar. Eagle Explosion all the way! Hi Tuffy: How did you get your name? Ahhhh the story of my namesake! Well, they used to call me Victor, that way back in the day when one of the fraternities on campus was responsible for my schedule. Sigma Nu was discontinued for a little while so when the athletic department heard I needed a new place on campus, they took me in; and we switched up the name to Tuffy, a play on being TOUGH! I’ve been Tuffy the Eagle ever since!  You are famous both on campus and in the Ashland community. How do you balance your time with these two groups effectively? It’s important to get out on campus and in the community, a lot like Division II athletics; it’s all about life in balance! When there is a request to go into the community I always do, as long as there’s not a home athletic contest at the same time!

Belly Busters BBQ restaurant review

Sometimes finding something to do in Ashland seems impossible. But, two Collegian reporters, Connor Dunwoodie and Callan Pugh, determined to find fun in their senior year, are visiting local spots in Ashland and reviewing them, so you know exactly what to expect if you choose to visit. This week, they went on over to Belly Busters BBQ.CallanThe first time my roommates and I went, we thought the GPS was messed up because it isn’t really in a place you would expect. It’s hidden within the Commerce Center Mall on Main St. and is right next to a cosmetology school. I’ve gone a few times and have had a really great experience each time. It’s my go to place if I am craving southern comfort food which, let’s be real, is all the time. ConnorBelly Busters BBQ is one of Ashland’s hidden treasurers. It is hidden away and almost impossible to see with the naked eye. I have had a lot of barbeque in my time here on earth, and this is one of the best barbeque joints I have ever been too, and It is by far one of my personal favorite restaurants in Ashland. The place is filled with nice people, great food, and welcoming vibes.  Service: 4.5/5CallanThe service set up is a little different from traditional sit down restaurants. It’s more like a cafe, when you enter you order at the front and pay, and then they bring your food out to you when it is ready. So we didn’t really have just one person helping us. But from the woman at the front who took our order, to the employee who brought out our food, to the man who came and checked on us as we were finishing up, everyone was so nice. I really appreciated that they genuinely cared. ConnorThe service at Belly Busters BBQ is so unique. The joint is filled with kind people and the place feels like family. When Callan and I sat down and got our food, our server mentioned how I did not get my usual side of sweet potato casserole when I had not eaten there since this summer. They remember and care for their customers and genuinely want those who eat at their restaurant to enjoy their time. The food also is served very fast usually, at maximum you will only wait 11-12 minutes.Cleanliness: 4.5/5CallanIt was clean and well kept. Sometimes in places that serve a lot of fried food, there is an unpleasant lingering grease smell but at Belly Busters all I smelled was the faint smell of delicious food when we stepped in. It seemed like a place that was loved and well cared for.ConnorBelly Busters BBQ is very clean and organized. The tables are not dirty and are thoroughly cleaned and the same goes for the floor. Even the bottles of ketchup and vinegar they leave at the tables seem to be cleaned and have no “gunk” or build up in them.Bathrooms: 3.5/5CallanThe bathroom was very clean and actually oddly cute. They were decorated in such a way that reminded me of Bear in the Big Blue House, or basically just any ‘90s children’s show that involved the characters visiting their grandparents house. I don’t know how else to explain it, but if you go and think of something better, let me know. Better yet, tweet me (@callanseesit). There were also three stalls, so say you and two of your best friends go and, like the name suggests, your belly’s get busted; you’re covered. ConnorThe bathrooms are decent and there are no obvious parts that are dirty to it. When I went the toilets were a little dirty but I have been there a handful of times before when the bathrooms were very clean. Affordability: 3.25/5CallanThe prices are great. Now to be fair, it isn’t dirt cheap, but if you wanted to eat dirt there are plenty of other restaurants in Ashland that I would recommend. I would say Belly Busters falls somewhere between the arbitrary dollar sign and double dollar sign that online restaurant reviews give. Basically, you can eat there decently cheap, but some menu items and meals are a little more expensive.ConnorFor the quality of the food the price is very affordable. I got a water and a pulled pork sandwich for about $6.00. It’s a great place to grab an affordable lunch that will fill you up. Sides are a little more expensive and are a little over $2.00. Although it is a little more expensive, I can’t stress how amazing their food is.Atmosphere: 4.25 /5CallanThe decor is a strange mixture of industrial and homey. There are pig statues and knick knacks all around the room. A fun side note; my mom actually collects pig themed knick knacks, so I was right at home. And I also felt at home thanks to the friendly service. It is clearly a family establishment focused on treating customers like family, and I’m so there for that. ConnorThe atmosphere of Belly Busters BBQ is very relaxed and family-friendly. There place is covered in pig decorations and some uplifting quotes and like I mentioned, the staff is incredibly nice. Something to note, the chairs have wheels on them and regardless of age, it is pretty fun to roll back and forth while waiting for the food.Ratings are the average of Callan and Connor’s Individual Reviews
